Writing Group ~ Cottage
Live Oak’s Writing Group of Goleta meets in the Cottage, where the members take turns providing a prompt. We enjoy a period of free-writing in response to a prompt and then sharing with the group. Such reflection, writing, and sharing deepens community in a supportive environment. An offshoot of the 2024 Sermon-Writing Class with Jonathan Young and Anne Bach, our monthly sessions fall on the second Wednesday of the month. Below are some sample prompts tied to Unitarian Universalism:
- “All theology is autobiography:” Write a brief narrative about a specific moment, book, or person that drastically shifted your personal belief system. [1]
- The Cathedral of the World: UU theology often views world religions and philosophies as stained-glass windows letting in different lights. Describe your own personal “stained-glass window”—which traditions or philosophies color your worldview? [1]
